I became aquainted with Victor Mario Zaballa while he was a resident artist at Exploratorium. His talents are far-reaching in many different mediums. His residencey included a fully stage theatrical performance based on the elemental myths of his native (non-spanish) Mexican heritage and the production of water drums for his collection. These were of varying sizes and complexity, all quite beautiful, and became the basis for the performances score; as well as after hour jam sessions.
It was pretty much a two-man show with Victor on stage and me doing everything else so we became collaborators for a brief time.
Victor invited me to join him in a performance of pre-Hispanic music at the Mexican Museum in San Francisco where I played in an ensemble of five at a huge mother drum.
