This place had it all; a live/work/performance space in a post-industrial San Francisco neighborhood within walking distance of the Mission District and South of Market. It had been in existence a short time before I got there and I stayed util the end.
While there I got to live and work with Rick Darnell, Anah-K Coates, Julia McCamy, Gene Williams (RIP), Peter Overton (RIP), Chris Rankin, Hilary Binder and Greg Allen who I met while working for George Coate Prformance Works production of "Actual Sho". This place housed eight rambuncious creative personalities, their assorted lovers, the occassional pet and on many nights hosted an additional 50 or 60 friends and fans. As most of us slept in unfinished lofts, only two sleeping areas had walls and only one of these had a door (no lock) which left the majority of the floor space free for rehearsals and performances serving the choreographers, musicians, sculptors, designers and so on that lived there.
There were also links from Studio 4 to the New Performance Gallery, the Shotwell collective performance space and other dance and music studios that were eventually wiped out by the Dot Com con a few years later.
